Riding, Meh....

It's been an unusually hot and dry summer so far.
Forests are closed to travel due to the extreme forest fire hazard and several are already burning out of control here.

Wish i could ship you some of our hot summer weather!!

Snap out of that funk Sarah and go ride.
Yup, too hot here sometimes as well, but not very often.

We've had a few weeks of hot and sticky weather and most days I chose to stay out of the sun and not ride, but I did get in a few early morning rides when it was cool.
It was like that yesterday, but I went for an evening ride with a couple of friends and it was still quite hot (by our standards - southern boys and girls will snicker) and wasn't really comfortable until sundown. Early mornings are the best times.

It feels like Spring here for the last few days and I have seen the first water skink (lizard) so they think its getting to spring too. Temp here today 24 degrees C.
My son has progressed from the Thunderbird to riding the Velocette today, nothing is safe i the garage now.

Today we went to a Velocette display day, here is Alex at the Service station. A bit cooler today only about 17 C and cooler still with a strong breeze, but still a great day for a ride.

93 today and high humidity. Road early when it was in the upper 80's lol

Mad you better go hang out in a Sauna for awhile to get "conditioned" to Southern US heat and humidity before your trip ;)

Just learn to breath underwater lol

I tell folks to live here in the SWAMPS you have to Amphibian

All sorted, I'm off to have a bath now. Mind you I'll look dumber than normal walking around with that lot on.

I will trade with you if i could.

last day of summer here and went for a ride with an old bike club, unfortunately one of my friends broke down on his Velocette rigid MSS and I volunteered to get my trailer to haul it home, so missed the last half of the run. It was just a simple thing of the nut holding the drive sprocket and spring had stripped, not an uncommon occurrence on old Velos, but not something that can be repaired on the side of the road without the right nut. Anyway it was a nice day and spring is definitely in the air here.

I'M BAAAAAACKKKKKK!

I'm happy to report that my summer funk has been banished!

It was a decent day today: high of about 84*F/29*C, with low humidity. FINALLY!

After spending all day at home doing work, I had to cut out. Hit the road on the Bonnie first for only about 50 miles, then I swapped out with my little Honda CRF230M. (The Honda has been neglected for almost a month, but it lives on a battery tender and has ethanol-free gas in it. I do start the bikes up at least once every 2 weeks.)

Here's a short YouTube video of a road event today. Nothing earthshaking, just thought I'd put it out there. Pardon the lousy sound quality -- I run the camera for insurance/protection reasons and am not concerned with audio at road speeds.

And pardon some mild adult language, LOL. :censored:

Yep, you gotta watch out for those four legged creatures :)
Lots of them around here and I've had several close encounters - one just last week.
Like your incident, they crossed the road well in front of me so it wasn't a close call as some have been.
I once had an encounter with a moose that was within arms length. That close it looked as big as a house BGRIN

This is just my own way of thinking and doing things, but I never start up a bike and let it idle unless I'm going to ride it and my bikes sit for nearly six months over the winter.
Maybe it's "the old days" way of thinking, but moisture is introduced into the exhaust system and doesn't burn off unless you ride it and get the system very hot.
That leaves moisture in the system to sit and start corrosion - especially the muffler which isn't stainless steel inside.

Over the years I've seen many mufflers with the bottoms rotted out from trapped moisture.
Anyway, that's just my opinion.

I never think of moose as being overly large until I see a video of one charging a car or a person. Absolutely terrifying. Youtube has some videos of close encounters between motos/moose.

Didn't know about the rust issue --- I will look into that. The last thing I want is to induce a problem.

About the idling --- ahhh, I was going to ask if you kept ethanol-free gas in the bike, but now I suspect that you winterize it -- drain the fuel completely, etc?

Believe me, moose are HUGE, and it they're within arms reach, they are even bigger - especially if you're on a motorcycle BGRIN
I'll never forget that incident.
It was an early morning in September on the Cabot Trail. I was riding east and the rising sun was blinding me.
I slowed down to about 30 mph or less and was using the white line on the edge of the pavement to my right as a guide until I came to a curve and faced south away from the sun.
All of a sudden I heard the clip-clop of running hooves. It was a moose running along beside me in the left lane and keeping pace.
It was so surreal I couldn't believe it. I could have reached out and touched it!
The moose was obviously standing on the left shoulder wanting to cross and I, not looking down the road, unknowingly rode right up to it.
It probably panicked and jumped out onto the road, but instead of crashing into me.....ran along side. That decision may have saved my life.
It hit the brakes hard and let the moose run on ahead - and eventually into the woods on the right.

Barney's Canadian cousin lives in the warm and dry basement all winter with a gas tank drained.

I do ride every day of the year, but it is springtime here in Aus, and starting to warm up nicely.
warm and dry, is definitely better than cold and damp.

Rocky,

You...you heard the clip-clop of his hooves?! I probably would have dumped the bike when I saw him, just from the shock. Good job keeping it all together.

So, how much for a new seat after that? :D
