Stop Tail Bulbs?

Bottom end is all finished, new rod and crank bearings....etc.
Waiting for jugs to come back from machine shop. Front wheel in the picture is only partially laced up.

Hi GP, the same happened when Volvos first appeared in the UK. Their owners got fed up with drivers flashing them they had their lights on. Sadly no answer to my original question regarding the differing quality of filament style bulbs. I shall have to do further research. As always I am not inclined to swap to modern equivalents and stronger alternators etc. Go down that road and when exactly does my original Triumph stop being original. I guarantee when it came up for sale the bike that was closest to original factory spec. would fetch the highest price. When I want modern I ride my FJR. Maybe we could start a movement called the KIO club. "Keep it Original". I genuinely feel disappointed when I see old Triumphs for sale that have been heavily modified and it absolutely slashes their value.

My 72 Tiger is still basically origional.....minus the rubber mounts, tires and exhaust. Tried to keep it as original as I could. Bought it in 2017 with 16,000 miles. Was sitting in a friend of my uncles garage. He hardly ever rode it. Lots of hours polishing up the aluminum. Installed a new set of rings. Bottom end has not been cracked open yet. This one is next after the T140 I'm working on

Great looking Tiger TUP TUP

Wow! That is a sparkly-lookin' project!

Looking might good so far. TUP

Please do and i am looking forward to those pics!

Any time you can, use LED's. Brighter, longer lasting and are not affected by vibration. If you look on Amazon you can usually find what you want at a reasonable price. Plus the fact that the old style filament bulbs will become a thing of the past at some point. I went to all LED bulbs on my 1953 Chevy hotrod show truck. The only thing I had to do was replace the flasher with an LED one that has a ground wire. My next project is to do the same thing to my '79 Triumph Bonneville T140. You can purchase LED bulbs that fit in the original filament type bulb sockets.

When I was 17 my first bike was a Thunderbird with 6 volt Electrics. Perhaps that's why we all smoked back then. A good drag on the cigarette produced more forward illumination than the 6v glow worm that passed for lights back then. One enterprising friend who wore one of the first full face helmets actually drilled a hole through the chin guard to allow smoking in a full face. He also lost all his front teeth when he hit a traffic island. Probably blinded by smoke in his eyes. Filament bulbs will continue simply because people like me like originality and they are cheap to produce. I have now done 6,500 kms and changed the rear stop/tail bulb once. I generally ride with my lights on during the day (never ride at night) even though its not actually a legal requirement here (although one motorcycle cop thought differently!).
Are the US motorcycle cops as anti motorcycle as the ones here in Australia seem to be?
I am sitting here in my office (in a shopping centre) watching shoppers with trolleys full of toilet paper passing my window. Go figure.

With all that TP they must be planning on changing to a high fiber diet!
Seriously though.....the walmart here in the Shenandoah valley is out of TP and PT. This Coronavirus is driving it I think.
I like the original filament bulbs as well....the LEDs are nice and bright for riding at night which I try to avoid when possible. With a little vibration dampening the old ones work just fine but always carry a couple spares.

All this toilet paper nonsense just gives me the shits! Yes, I have a complete set of spare bulbs and fuse in bubble wrap inside the headlamp. Must remember to check the little bulbs in the speed/rev, I have a feeling they may have blown, not that they do much in bright sunlight.
