Numerous good bricks-and-mortar retailers in the US with a cherished rep to protect - Mitch Klempf, Baxter, MAP Cycle, British Only, Walridge, etc.? You're more likely to get the correct conical hub caps first time, not be foisted by some Ebay waster with disc brake caps.

Took it out again today. It's a ferocious beast running like a raped ape. I need to fix the tach and the speedo so that I can see what I'm doing.

Engine cooling fins are corroded. Is there an easy way to clean these or is it basically a hand scraping job? Thanks -BA

Cleaning those fins takes a thin wire bristle brush, shaped like a straw. Harbor Freight should have them.

I had my '70 "TrophyVille" looking like that for most of it's life, then I spiffed it up a little bit, then a few years later I refurbished it to "presentable" and sold it.

Got it running perfectly, starts first or second kick and idles nice and slow. Plenty of power through the whole range.
Went and paid the registration fees (good only until December).
Got it added to my insurance policy for a year.

Went to the Department of Motor Vehicles to get my M1 driver's license. Drove 13 miles and arrived 45 minutes before opening and there was already a line about 500 feet long. Five plus hours later I got to the eye chart and flunked. I can see better than most people with both eyes open but apparently there is a cataract in my right eye. So I need to have surgery before I can legally ride. When I was a young fool I never let such things as little laws cramp my style but things are different as an adult as you know. Additionally, in California they can charge you with a misdemeanor crime, not just a traffic infraction, for driving without proper license. Not to mention that the police has the option to tow your bike away and it is something like $1800 to get it back, plus impound fees Etc. Soooooooooo, I am debating my options. 1) Sell the bike, 2) get the surgery, or 3) keep it around just to have it and have something to tinker with and fix up some more. In the back of my mind somewhere is the option "Hey, just ride normally and with everything legal and they will never pull you over. Don't worry about it!"
I'll need the surgery anyway in 2 more years when I renew my regular driver's license but really I can see quite well using both eyes still. -BA

I assume your insurance will pay for most of the surgery. I recommend getting it done sooner rather than later. I waited until I couldn't read highway signs...Stupid. Though you think you see fine now, and maybe you do, how you'll see after the surgery won't compare. And the surgery is practically painless, with a very quick recovery...the eyes are one of the fastest healing parts of the body.

I can read any sign usually before a passenger in my car or truck. I honestly don't feel like I need this yet but maybe I am not being realistic.
Yeah, insurance covers it but I may opt for the fancy "accommodating" lens.

A customer told me he has the plain one in one eye and the fancy one in the other and it was worth every penny of the $1,500 extra charge for the accommodating one. I think they are more like $3,000 now, I need to check this. -BA

I went for distance lenses in both eyes, and glasses for reading because I'm used to glasses after 50 years. So my glasses are clear glass on top and reading correction on bottom. The first thing I noticed after the first eye was how yellow everything was with the other eye, while the corrected eye saw white whites.

In GB, only an optometrist could diagnose cataracts, and advise treatment. Google says the US equivalent of a British optometrist is a "doctor of optometry"? It was one in the DMV?

If not, everything I've ever read online about US DMV staff, they have trouble walking and chewing gum at the same time - a recent new contributor, his DMV has recorded complete rubbish for the "frame number" of his bike. But they can diagnose cataracts? Mmmm ...

Really? US insurers are happy to insure you with a potential condition affecting your sight? Here in GB, eyesight for driving is eyesight for driving, does not matter what you are driving; if that fail was for one category, you would lose all your entitlements until it was fixed. A condition of any valid vehicle insurance is you are licenced to drive the vehicle.

Oh, good question! California DMV is known, here anyway, to be less than optimal, so I'd love to see them put in their place.
