2009 Speedmaster that sat neglected for many years. Key on don't hear pump run. Will not crank with button but will when relay is jumped. Dealer tool will not connect to ECU. I see no power going to pump. Fuses all appear to have power going through them. Any ideas where to start here?

If the pump doesn't prime it won't start. When you turn the key on what lights up on the instrument cluster? Also what's the state of the fuel tank (bad gas, rusted, etc)?

I have no lights on instrument cluster and see no power at fuel pump plug.

Yes, very bad gas. Was going to pull the pump out but don't see any power at the plug.

Drain the the tank first and clean the system. Then start looking at any electrical issues.

What Sikatri said. You don't want to start it with bad gas, it'll cause more headaches than you can imagine. Once the fuel system is clean then you'll want to check your relays. Usually it's a relay that goes out that casuses these kind of problems. If you have a source for the wiring diagram that would be helpful. Also the 09 being fuel injected you may want to pull the injectors and clean them as well. Motion-Pro makes an injector cleaner that's simple and easy to use.

Will do. Just don't understand why the Dealer Tool won't connect to the ECU. It works fine on my Tiger.

Too old a design. My OBD and TuneECU read all my bikes except my 1998 Trophy 1200. Your cluster not lighting up makes me think there's a relay that's stuck or dead. To know for sure where to start that electrical diagram will come in handy. Here's where you see a screen shot of an older version of the Speedmaster schematic: it has a number of relays that could be the culprit.

Dealer tool tells me it will work with this bike. They said if it's fuel injected it will work. Now to test all relays and clean out fuel tank. I appreciate the help.

My TuneECU wouldn't communicate with my son-in-laws 2010 Speed Triple with my OBD-LX reader until I connected a Tuneboy cable to it. If your dealer tool is a bluetooth device it may require hooking up a chip enabled cable. Just a thought.

The Dealer Tool is connected via cable. I tried TuneECU with a ODBII reader that i carry on my Tiger when I travel. Said "Can't Connect to ECU".

What is this? Is it missing a cover or something?

If you’re referring to the gizmo with a tube to the head and electrical wires, that’s the air injection system. Some people remove those as a mod if their jurisdiction doesn’t check emissions. Mine was already removed on my Thruxton.

Is it supposed to be open on the end. There are 2 threaded holes, looks like something else should mounted on there.

Not sure which threaded holes you’re referring to. Mine was already gone when I got my bike. All of that is hidden by the gas tank.

I got in the ECU. Looking at relays saw there was no power to the fuel pump relay. Traced wire back to fuse box and pulled that fuse, had power there, stuck it back in and now I have power to the FP relay. Bad connection. Will pull all fuses tomorrow and clean connections with contact cleaner. Hooked up Dealer Tool and it went in to the ECU. Sent in registration code and should be able to scan it tomorrow. All indicator lights are lit now. Fuel tank is off, will clean that out. Thought I would see if it would crank over and all I get is a click. Can't seem to find location of starter relay. Where is it hiding? Click comes from around the air box somewhere. Long day brain is frazzled but making progress.

Did you switch the type fuel injection? Make sure it's resding Keihin and not Sagem when connected to a Triumph twin.

Replaced starter relay and now it cranks.
After cleaning the fuel tank out and replacing everything internally fuel pump runs and shuts off as it should. Have good spark, cranks over good but won't even try to start. Shows no codes on Dealer Tool. Plugs are dry so it's not getting fuel. Is there a way to check fuel pressure? Can I somehow check the fuel injectors to see if they are firing?

If you pull the injector out and place a container under it you should be able to see gas come out if you try to start it. That’s my thought anyway. I’m not familiar with the fuel system on that bike. So hopefully someone with better understanding of the specifics will chime in.

You can insert a pressure guage in the line and see if the pump is developing pressure. Gas dribbling out won't tell you the pump is functoning. If you pulled the pump out and cleaned the sump screen, the pump might need to cycle a few times to fully prime.
