I rode Walter’s Africa Twin yesterday . First thing I noticed was foot peg vibration and he says the bar vibe becomes prevalent after a while . Not nearly as silky as the Thruxton R but the DCT was neat . Might not want the automatic myself but it works like it was a Honda thing .
 
The reason was for better low end traction. But, in general, I agree. A disadvantage on paved roads.

I am not sure that is the real reason for the T-Plane crank. The interval between power pulses at 3,000 rpm is only about 0.02 seconds. Can the rubber in a tyre relax in that time? I bet it cannot.

The real reason is that some brain-dead children in design or marketing thought that a lumpy ‘twin-cylinder sound’ was a good selling point. Because they are children, and little things please little minds.

So the smoothness and quality of my ride can go to heIl, because the purple haired kids are now in charge.
