My 01 ST is giving off way more heat than usual. I've put in a new rad cap and thermostat, and checked the entire cooling system. Everything is operational and the gauge is always near the cool end.
The only other factor I can think of is the oil I'm using. I've read here that many are using Rotella T5, so I put it in instead of the usual Motul.
Thoughts?

That should have read : little.
Sorry ,new at this.

I stand to be informed otherwise, but I've never heard of any brand of oil causing overheating problems.

Try using a infrared temp gauge to see crankcase temp.
Dip for oil temperature using a temp sensor.
Maybe your oil has reacted with some crap petrol.
Or the motul and Rotella are not compatible.
Ask the Oil Reps.
We are not oil reps.

Didn’t know T 5 was being used in motorcycles , lots of T6 in use . Still should not cause heat issues ..

I, too, have never heard of an over heating issue caused by an oil brand.

I would not suspect the oil, as long as its not 90 weight or some other abnormal viscosity. I run Rotella in all my bikes and have never had any sort of heating issue associated with oil.
