Bike: 1998 Trophy 900 with 58,000 miles
Background: Bike makes rattling/jangling noise on deceleration. First check has been alternator for loose/broken bolt.
Observations: Pulled alternator and bolt was intact/tight. However, the center has "play" on the shaft splines...when I spin the center back and forth I can hear and feel movement. I purchased a new center, but it still has play on the old shaft (not really a surprise).
Questions:
Am I on the right track with the "play" being a potential cause of my noise?
Regardless of whether it is the cause of my noise, is the play a problem?
Can the shaft be replaced? I see a part #, but I haven't found any thread or video of someone doing it?
Thanks for any insight!
