So, in my past post about chasing down some engine noise, I mentioned pulling the alternator. I now on my 3rd o-ring in an attempt to successfully seat the alternator as it keeps leaking oil. The last attempt was performed by a dealer, and unfortunately it leaks more now than before taking it in. the two times I tried, on removal it was obvious that I tore up the o-ring. Anyone have a trick to getting that o-ring in effectively?

I hope you get some tips, but probably not many have had to deal with this problem.

Hi you could try lubricating with silicon grease on assembly.

One thing to remember is the O rings are metric and not imperial if you try to put imperial in there they will split or twist in the grooves .

Update…after trying to seal it myself (both times with OEM parts) I took it to the dealer. I felt somewhat vindicated when their attempt leaked worse than my trials. In their second kick, they tried different sizes of o-rings from more recent models (with sealant) and that worked.

Glad it was finally resolved and thank you for telling us.
