The California Air Resources Board has published executive orders certifying a number of unannounced 2020 Triumph models. These include the Thruxton RS, which Triumph has already started teasing, a couple of Bud Ekins tribute Bonnevilles and two new versions of the Tiger 1200.

While we know Triumph will debut the Thruxton RS at EICMA, the CARB documents confirm it will joined by a Thruxton RS Showcase variant. Both variants will share the same 1200cc engine, but they were certified separately from the regular Thruxton and Thruxton R, suggesting some changes to the exhaust system and/or the engine. The executive order confirms the presence of a pulsed secondary air injection system (PAIR) which the other 1200cc Triumph Twins lack. CARB documents also confirm a different engine code for the RS models but there’s no indication of how else the engine differs from the regular Thruxton’s powerplant.

The CARB documents also confirm new variants of the Bonneville T120 and T100 honoring Ekins, an accomplished racer and stunt rider famously known for jumping a Triumph TR6 in The Great Escape. The 2020 Bonneville T120 Bud Ekins were Bonneville T100 Bud Ekins were both certified along with their respective base versions, suggesting no changes to the engines or exhaust systems from the 2019 models.

Also notable was the absence of any reference to the Street Cup which shares the engine with the Bonneville T100, suggesting it may be discontinued. The Street Twin is also certified for 2020 in a separate filing with new emissions data, suggesting some changes to that model.

The Tiger family was certified with two new variants, the Tiger 1200 Alpine and the Tiger 1200 Desert, joining the returning XCa, XCx, XR, XRt and XRx versions. The certification data shows no changes from the 2019 models, so we’ll have to wait to see how the Alpine or Desert versions are outfitted.

We expect all of these 2020 Triumph models to be announced Nov. 5 at EICMA. Check back here on for the latest.

Will be interesting to see what the Alpine and Desert versions of the 1200 Tiger bring to market.
I want to see the Desert version.
