Clunky Gear Change

Hi,
I have recently purchased a 2019 triumph tiger sport 1050
clunks putting it into 1st and sequentially 2nd then 3rd.
above this seems ok.
Any suggestions would be helpfull.

Hi Casper.
Check clutch lever free play and adjust as per your owners' manual and that the chain is also set correctly. Providing the bike doesn't creep forward in first with clutch in and you can find neutral with no problem, I'd guess that there's probably nothing wrong with the bike but It'll just take a bit of time for you to get used to synchronising and timing your gear changes to get the smoothest and quietest changes. My 2018 Bonneville took me a while to get used to as well, but one soon learns to work with the gearbox rather than against it and find the sweet spots for changing. Has the bike the correct grade of oil and has it been changed recently? I know a lot of riders who have said that their gears and clutch operation improves after an oil change to a quality brand. Some bikes with conventional gearboxes are better than others - changing rear sprocket sizes and ratios can improve or make things worse, just the way things are.
No sychro as with a car so we have to do our own. Good luck and I hope this of some use but if still in doubt, have a mate give the bike a run and see what they think.
