tiger 800 xcx 2014
Hi guys and girls
i have a Triumph tiger 800 XCX. The fuel gauge doesn’t appear to be working. When I turn the key the fuel gauge bars highlight on the dash up and down then nothing. I’m tipping the dash screen is working correctly and possibly the senses or whatever is being used to measure the fuelIn the tank is not working. Any ideas on how I test this please.

The only thing I can suggest is to pull the tank and check float and sending unit in tank. If you could updated the year of your bike in your profile, it may help others answer any other questions you may have. Not sure if one year or another had this particular problem.

Thanks mate.

Just curious as to how much you've rode the bike. These fuel gauges won't register any new readings until you've rode a 100 meters or so at least.

Please let us know what you find. As an old school rider, I rely on the trip meter/odometer - not the fuel gauge.

yeh ,im the same. im more interested that it works incase i forget to reset my trip meter.and yes ill let you know what i find

Thanks and I can realte to forgetting to zero the trip meter!

That's why it can be good to have a "reserve."

Yes, I agree. But with EFI, one doesn't have a reserve. One is dependent on the warning light.

Yes, it is a good memory improvement device! BGRIN

It can take a mile or so to register the fuel level if you have just filled up or when the battery has been disconnected or the voltage fallen too low.

Have you re-checked it after a short ride?

Just to eliminate the obvious, have you done a visual check on the actual level of fuel in the tank.

I am having this issue, however that is what your trip meter is for also. On my America, I always set the trip meter with each fill up. @ 120 I know I better be looking for a gas station.

Yes, but I have once or twice forgotten to clear the trip meter; having to switch to reserve serves to reinforce setting the trip meter.

Not sure if this is exactly the same but I have a 2020 Tiger 800 xRt .. tft petrol gauge works fine unless I brim the tank .. if I fill to the absolute brim, the gauge will go all the way to the top and all the way to the bottom and disappear. At this stage I know the tank is full so not worried. I then have to do about 50 miles before the gauge reappears showing full, then works as normal. My dealer is not sure what causes it but it happens every time. I’m not overly worried as it is a “right sided failure” but it would be good to know the reason. This never happened on my 2013 Tiger (non TFT) so not sure if it is a fuel sender issue or a TFT module fault.
