It appears that I have a short in the ignition switch on my 1999 thunderbird sport. When harness coming out of switch is moved, headlight comes on without the key turned. Thoughts? Ideas?

thanks,

Shawn

I think you're right. BGRIN

I removed the bottom of the switch and found a disconnected wire. Has anyone removed the switch before. Looks like it’s mounted with blind fasteners that require drilling to remove.

Ignition switches burn out because all the main switch load goes through it. Poor design.

I modded mine by using a fused positive from the battery straight to the main fusebox (so short run, all under the seat), but switched on by a relay powered from the rear brake light feed. Main switch now handles minimal load, the relay switches heavy current direct from battery to fuses as the rear brake circuit powers up. Just make sure to tie in to the feed side, not the switched side!
