Kick Starter sometimes bounds-up, on my 1976 750 Bonneville, when first trying to start in the mornings. It feels like trying to kick it through concrete, after four to six try’s, it engages and starts. After warming up, it doesn’t do it the rest of the day.

I changed the 90w gear lube, and didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary other than dirty gear lube. I’ve been kick-starting this ole bike for going-on 20-years, and this is a first, and is not showing up in my service manual. Anyone have this challenge?

Inner and/or outer kicker shaft bushings and/or gear teeth starting to wear.

thanks for the reply back in October. Actually not long after your reply, it got better on its own! Now it just reverted back to even worth an before! If I pull off that side plate, do you think I will be able to see/fix the problem without having to pull the engine?

In my parts manual, it shows a Kickstarter spindle bush & Gearchange spindle bush. Is that what you’re referring too? I don’t see an inner or outer shaft bushings.

Yes, those parts. Also, inspect the teeth on the kicker gear.
