New Triumph Trophy

My first motorcycle was a Triumph Speedtwin which I rebuilded in my room. 2nd bike was a 305 Yamaha. 3rd Bike was a 69 Trident. 4th Bike was a 650 Kawasaki(was not much impressed with it). Then I got a brand new 1979 Yamaha XS 1100 Special. It served me well for 26 years. I sold it to a friend of mine and he is still riding it. In 2005 I bought a Daytona 955i. In 2007 I bought a 1050 Sprint St for Eline but it was a bit to heavy for her. Also assisted Marius to buy his 675 Daytona. In 2008 I traded the Daytona in for Street Triple for Eline. Traded in the 2007 Sprint for 2008 Sprint ST. Hopefully there will be a new TIGER 800 in my garage in the future.

Johann, I am impressed. You started with a SpeedTwin and I have never even had the opportunity to ride one! I had a 1973 Yamaha TX-650 that I rode for 18 years. The Triumph factory was on strike and I what I really wanted was a new Tiger.

I hope you get a new Tiger 800; you'll love it.

Hi Carl, I am thinking of getting it early next year.

Please keep us updated. I hope you get it. My 800 XC is the best all around bike I have owned in 54 years of riding.

Only the SE model will be imported here.

The first bikes are expected here around the end of January 2013.

Nah. I might get that 2010 Speedy SE so I can show you how a brekkie run should be done!

The Trophy SE comes with an audio system and speakers, so you can play your favourite boereorkes musik when you pop down to the local Spar to buy your braaikos en melktart on a Sunday afternoon- T shirt, shorts and slip-slops nogal. :y13:

My billsh/t detector just went nuts.

Jokes aside, if I get the chance of a test ride I'll certainly take it. I've never ridden a tourer.

And these days I do quite a bit of touring....

That's the truth!

Guys, it's not the truth!

I could bring my checkbook, my VISA & Master Cards, my medical aid card, my unit trust certificate and,

and,

I still couldn't afford the new Trophy! CRY

Dave, I can certainly relate to that!

Er, no.

The official launch is in 11 days' time, but there were a couple at our local dealer this morning. This type of pupose built large tourer is simply not my cup of tea, but that notwithstanding, I was not impressed with it. It is incredibly wide and the electrically operated screen seems to extend to an absurd height. The word 'gross' kept entering my mind. These are just my impressions; I'm sure others will like it and it's supposed to be great to ride. Anyway, I didn't even want to sit on it.

But surely, if someone wants a huge powerful tourer they'd do the sensible thing and buy a Kawasaki Concours 14? If you want a sports tourer it's the VFR1200.

On Saturday I sat on it. In the pics and in the flesh it looks like a long low bike. It's not; it's a quite tall very long bike. I have a 32" in seem and could only just get my feet flat on the floor. But I couldn't do that because the footrests were in the way, right where my lower legs were. Then there are the huge handlebars that arch back towards the rider and the grips were far too close to my chest.

Sorry, but I really do not like this bike.

Yesterday after work our local dealer hosted the official launch of the Trophy SE, along with the revised 2013 Street Triple. It must have been about 35C at 5pm yesterday.

My wife said that "professional male model" was HOT.
She should know as she lives with another hottie. :y2:

Triumph won't make money from me on a bike that big no matter how good it is.
Honestly I'd rather a Rocket 3 with bags and a windscreen, at least as an average person (lower end of average just under 5' 8") I could reach the ground with both feet.

Hot? You bet; it was 35C :y54:

I'm 5' 9" and you can see that I can't really flat-foot easily. Perhaps the seat was at the higher setting. But what you can't really see is the footrest interfering with the lower leg. I can foresee many problems ahead when Trophy riders stop and their foot doesn't go down to the ground the way they want because the bally footpeg is where they want to put their leg- that could cause many oops moments IMO.

In the pics the windscreen is in the low postion. It rises electrically by about 5"/125mm above the postion shown in the pics. I find that quite absurd TBH.

I can and have ridden Tigers for hours at a time. I'd much prefer the Tiger 1200 Explorer to the Trophy and I'd much rather have my manageable Tiger 800 to either of the 1200s. Others will view it differently.

Out of place here, but what the heck, the 2013 Street Triple R. In my view it looks much more serious and businesslike than the old familiar model.

And the dealer's got a demo R model- I wonder if I can blag a ride on it? :y6:
