New Years Day dawned clear, bright, sunny, a bit breezy and unseasonably warm. In short, a near perfect day for a ride. MSTA had scheduled a New Years Day ride to Pecks Old Port Cove Restaurant and Tiki Bar on the Gulf Coast. Five of us gathered at my house for a 9:00 AM departure. Frenchie joined us from Ft Lauderdale. She wanted to explore our back roads with us. The temp was 73F/22.8 C.

The top route was our route there and bottom route was our route home.

Kickstands were up at 09:05 and we were off to our first stop at the Yalaha Bakery, a rendezvous point. No riders were there and the bakery was closed for New Years; so no delicious German pastries. Our route took us through rural Florida on mostly two lane backroads, easy riding and nice scenery.

We arrived at Pecks Old Port Cove at 11:40 and met two MSTA members from Ohio. We all ate outside on the deck. One more member was outside at the Tiki Bar. We had three non members who joined us. I saw four other members who headed for the park just up the road. I didn’t get to talk with them. In total there were 15 folks enjoying the outing in the beautiful Old Port Cove setting.

The food was delicious as always. The catches of the day were red snapper and grouper. At our table, two had red snapper, two had shrimp and I had blackened grouper, cheese grits, cole slaw and key lime pie. The camaraderie was great, a pleasant lunch in a relaxing setting.

We left for home around 1:30 PM with out group taking a more southerly route through old Florida. It was now 83 F/28.3 C. We all refueled in Nobleton and resumed our eastward trek. At the junction of FL 48 and US 27 in Okahumpka, Frenchie turned south on US 27 and the rest of us continued east toward home. Frenchie rode a total of 600 miles and we ride a total of 111 miles.

A good day, a good ride and a fine way to start 2021.

Nice. Great scenery and comradery.
We could have rode here New Year's Day as well. With heated gear or a snowmobile suit. Had no snow but cool temps. Today.......much different story. 25 cms of the white goo landed here. Our first significant snowfall of the Winter season. Oh well, it was bound to happen sooner or later.
Keep the great pics of your rides coming, Carl. Enjoy them greatly.

Thank you, Q. Our weather will turn back to winter tonight. The same front that brought you the white stuff will bring us rain mid morning and winter temperatures tonight and tomorrow. However, no white stuff.
