My Ride
Triumph America 2014
I like to ride briskly. Just because it is a cruiser doesn't mean you can't ride hard and scrape the boards. However, Mr Triumph, among several minor faults, has made the lug you hook your boot onto, to lower the side stand, the first thing to touch down. Takes not much to grind it untill it breaks off. The side stand is now tucked neatly behind the left muffler and can't be reached or seen. So I found when I pulled up on a run with several mates way out in the country. My mate John got on hands and knees to find and lower my side stand. Had I been alone, I would have just hoped to have enough fuel to ride home and try and lean it against my garage wall. This from a bike that had several incantations before finally going into production. Amazing!

Guess you're not supposed to have THAT much fun on an America. GL getting it fixed up.

I also noticed that my Speedmast side stand seems to scrap at the slightest tilt. Not sure how you can fix this possibly installing a main stand might help. I have been wanting to do this for many years but have never got around to actually doing it.

You might try welding a new kicker on the stand that follows and hugs the contour of the exhaust. Touching that down beats touching the exhaust down.

This sounds like good advice.

I managed to buy the one and only sidestand in Australia. Had to give the last six numbers of my vin to check it was the right one for my bike. Now riding like a wuss. The side stand is cast so Im not sure about being able to weld it.

It might be tricky, but doable. For cast steel welding:
For cast iron:
The first thing is to determine the type of casting and its makeup. The articles above should give you an idea how to determine what you have. Or perhaps Triumph can tell you the specifics of the parts composition.

I dragged the 'feelers' on my Bobber Black when I tried to keep up with my son-in-law on his Speed Triple, so I bought me a Thruxton R and that really helped, no dragging the 'bank angle indicators'. And in SPORT mode I could catch up quick. I then bought a '22 Speed Triple RS 1200 and that cured the 'keeping up with' problem all together. Now he rides my Bobber as much as I do.
