Does anyone know who repairs speedo/tachometer for the triples/4 cyl. early bikes? Prices for new or good used speedometers and tachometers for Thunderbird/Adventurer/Legend/Speed Triple are astronomical!! I know that "Nisonger" does repairs on the Meriden "Smiths" items. I recall a thread somewhere about tacho repairs using parts from Radio Shack, but they are long gone. The trip reset on my speedo on my '96 Thunderbird doesn't seem to engage and the tachometer needle mostly just lies dead at the bottom until once in a while it freaks out and gyrates frantically for a couple seconds, then goes back to sleep. I just can't see spending near $1,000USD for worn out "iffy" used items.

Sounds pricey, the used items you’ve looked at, eBay?

Hi, I had the tach quit on my 96 Adventurer 900. Like you couldn’t justify spending ungodly amount of money. So I fixed my own. I put hose clamps around the base by the chrome and used an old paint can opener to slowly work the chrome ring off. Tore it apart, resoldered every connection seeing mine was electronic and made sure all the flux was removed with a tiny screw driver and then used deox for final cleaning of the circuit board. Put it back together using a small piece of wood to re-pean the chrome ring. Put it back on and it worked perfectly. Hope this might help you or someone else with this issue. Good luck and let me know if it worked for you. Very slow and tedious job.

Yeah, I'm 74, and on a retiree's budget, so with an ongoing 242 Volvo V8 project, 3 Norton Commandos and an Aprilia, "toy money" is a bit tight!
