O.K. so, a year and uhm.. 3 months and the Shinko 705 tires are still going strong, good grip wet or dry and they seem to be wearing about the same as the much more expensive Michelin tires I used previously. As always the rear is down to about 50% tread, and the front is still looking very good, so I will need, in a few months, a new rear tire. I tend to burn the rears 2 to 1 over the fronts. As do most folks I think.
Anyway, happy to report these seem to be well worth the $ and are quality kit for the price. I must say I feel I may have gotten an extra 1,000 miles or so out of the Michelin tires, but at over 300.00 for a set of Michelins .......its a no brainer.

I used (and liked) Kenda tires on my smaller 650 BMW Funduro a few years back. and they where even less expensive than the SHinko brand and did excellent on the smaller bike. However they did not, and to my knowledge still don't make a tire speed rated to handle the BEASTLY Tiger Torque....so seems for now the Shinko tires will be the way I "roll" ha sorry couldn't resist. :y2:

Yeah, we had another big one come thru this morning and expecting the same tomorrow. I did hear my neighbor hammering on something, might need to see if it's an Ark.

Thanks for the update on Shinkos. I am going put them on my Bonnie next time it needs new tires. I still haven't decided on what I am going put on the XC. So far I have gotten 8000 miles out of the original Battlewings.

The 705 on the rear of my Girlie is still looking good and performs as well or better than the Battlewing that I replaced with it.

I want something a little more aggressive than the Battlewings - something around 60/40 or 70/30 30 as opposed to the Battle wings which are 80/20. I have looked seriously at the Heidenau Scout K60 and may still try them. But they create some road noise. Shinko 705 is an 80/20 tire; but I like the tread design better than the Battlewings. I am also considering the Shinko 700; it is a 60/40 like the Scout K60. I learned in North Carolina that I need a bit more of an agressive off road tire for the rocks and mud.

I had to stick with an 80/20 ...really I need a 90/10 as I don't get off road that much. But I to liked the Shinko tread design (which does transfer more noise and a slight vibration at very low speed --like 5mph--). I mainly was being a cheap bastard......uhm I mean "frugal consumer".....but was/am very happy with the results. NOT always the case when being "frugal" :y16:

I may well give the Shinkos a try.

Got a chance to try them in a veritable downpour last week. Worked perfectly. Happy with the tires for sure, and at the price I am thrilled with them.

I forgot, I too had a chance about a month ago to try them in a downpour. I was impressed how they felt, like they were on dry pavement. I was at highway speeds on a Houston freeway, some side streets, farm roads and fairly recently paved roads, handled all great.

Well Folks! Here we are again......new tire time is rolling around (lol hah ahha man I am a riot!) Any way.

I had to re-tread (another zinger) through this thread for the original date of install on the Shinko 705's and Wow! March of 2011!!!!!! THe front is STILL going very strong.....the back, well, I am well into the wear marks with just a "smidge" of tread left before I am surfing on a slick.

And I am happy to see ---the rates have actually DROPPED for this tire. I paid around 110.00 for the rear in 2011, I am now seeing the identical tire with FREE shipping from REVZILLA it is now $89.19!!!!!

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY is an UNDERSTATEMENT! :y2:

What mileage do you have on the rear tire?

Carl, I didn't actually document the tire change mileage.....i certainly will this time, but from best I can estimate I have between 4500 and 5000 miles on these tires. The most I ever got from a 200.00 plus rear Michelin Anakee was about 6,000 miles.....so from my guestimations.......these things really are a great deal. And the tread is much more aggressive off road.
