You only hear of the problems on the web, never to positives. I have a 2018 T120 and wondered if it is the case that there are bikes prior 2021 that have no issues with the gearbox downshifting.

Mines good but very low mileage

Comments welcome.

I have never had an issue with downshifting on my bikes, been doing it since 1974.

2016 and 2017 no issues

Thanks for that info, how many miles have you done?
I have found that if my bike "clunks" when I put it into first, it is a sign that I am a 1/2 Qt low on oil. The engine oil and the clutch oil are the same on some Triumphs. That's why the manual says " never coast with the engine turned off".

Even without leaking or dripping oil ( Ah, the good ole days!) Triumphs lose oil just by riding them. Doesn't mean you have bad rings, they just use oil. If you want to make sure you're not burning oil, put your hands up against the exhaust for a few minutes and smell your palms.

No gearshift issues on my 2019 and 22,000miles bike. The 1st gear engagement clunk is just a wet multiplate clutch - worse when the engine is cold.

2019 T120 no issues- nice clutch and gear change action very happy

Thanks All for the response, this is all very comforting. I love my new bike of three weeks, 2018 model done 1400miles rides lovely. There are some issues with downshifting mentioned on the web. But it seems there are alot more positives, so nothing to be concerned about. Thankyou.

My Tiger 800 2011 had down shift issues . There was a recall to replace the “detent ,I think” spring but mine was never right until it got a new thingy ma jig at about 40 k km .
