2013 Tiger Explorer XC

I am sure you will have a few owners that may be a bit irritated by this all :y2:

The Tiger 800 roadster and the XC versions have some differences. In the case of the 1200 I can't see that the standard bike has any advantage (as a pure road bike) over this XC version which would appear to be a more off-road capable bike and therefore more versatile. Mmm, and did I say that I'm thinking of trading in my Tiger 1050 some time next year? :y15:

I do think this XC really does look the part! I assume that these alloy spoked rims are the same as the ones fitted to the Yamaha Super Tenere- they certainly look the same ( I think they are Excel rims).

Not sure what type they have been fitted with as I have only seen photos so far

The rims are tubeless according to reports.

I want to test ride an Explorer XC. But that said, For my style of riding and the off road riding I do, I think the 800 XC has the advantage because of the weight. For primarily touring and occasional off road on maintain and semi-maintained unpaved roads, I think the Explorer XC would be ideal. t my age, I am interested in lighter, not heavier, bikes.

Ya can say that again Carl, that's why I like my Street Triple, big bike zap with small bike weight.
A close friend only yesterday sold his Tiger 1050 that sat next to his Rocket 3. He said two big bikes made no sense and will replace it with a T100 for short rides and town work.

That will make a fine combination - an R3 for the long haul and touring and a Bonnie for local riding. I use my T100 for around town and short trips and my XC for long trips and off road.

Has anybody overseas (UK, USA, Oz, NZ etc.) seen a firm published price yet for the 1200XC in your country?

I saw on a local dealer's website a price of $15,699 for the Explorer and for the XC it was still shown as "Request Quote" so I guess they aren't listing the MSRP yet.

That's what I thought- thanks for the info.

The plot thickens....

I have learnt that from next year the standard 1200 Explorer will have a (tubeless) wire wheel option (for a nominal extra price). So you can buy a w/wheel Explorer and accessorize it the way you want.

It looks as though the importer here has decided that this is the route they will take and they will not import the Explorer XC.

That is an interesting decision. Looks like the importer has decided they will make more money from the accessories than from the new model.

Apart from the wheels, farkles and colour scheme there's no difference between the Explorer & the Explorer XC, unlike the Tiger 800 which has a 19" f/wheel whilst the 800XC has a 21" f/wheel.

Triumph is seemingly confusing things on the 1200 by offering the w/wheel option! The folks here see the Explorer XC as superfluous and, for reasons I'm unaware, the matt kahki colour isn't at all popular here.

One is not going to make an off road bike out of the 1200. Wire wheels make it better able to withstand off road rocks, pot holes, and jarring; but they don't make it lighter and easier to handle.

A local TV programme put two experienced riders on an Explorer and a Honda Crosstourer and they were absolutely belting them on an offroad trail! Sideways, wheelspin, airborn over jumps- you name it, they did it. I couldn't believe my eyes. These big bikes are tremendously capable offroad in expert hands.

And that is the key. An expert rider can do things with the 800 XC that I can only dream about! :y2:

The Tubeless Wire Wheels

I photographed these earlier today. The anular webs where the spokes locate can be clearly seen. Front & back wheels:

That actually makes sense because all I see in the XC version is the "launch" model with some tubeless wire wheels. I mean, there no extra tank capacity or special crash bars or anything. the only real difference is the wheels.

Ok, where's my money to get me an Explorer XC?

Thanks for the photos Dave. TUP

Posting with Tapatalk while riding my Tiger 955i at 15 over the speed limit.

I like the bike; but it is too heavy for me and my style of riding. If you read between the line it means I am getting old. BGRIN
